Description:

Magda Taliaferro (1893-1986) was a Brazilian-born pianist who entered the Paris Conservatory in 1906, where she studied with Montmartre and Cortot. He made his Paris debut in 1908. He became popular for his elegant style of playing. A close friend of composers Ravel and Poulenc, Reynand Ahn composed piano concertos for her and often accompanied and conducted her. She returned to Brazil during World War II, but resumed her activities in Europe after the war, and in 1967 she established a foundation in her name in São Paulo to foster musicians. This 10-CD set contains 17 original albums she recorded between 1931 and 1961, including some rare recordings that collectors have been searching for.She has a gift for musicality, formality, and esprit de corps, which can be heard in this set of works by Beethoven, Mozart, Fauré, Schumann, Chopin, Saint-Saens, Weber, Mendelssohn, Debussy, Montpauw, Albeniz, Villa-Lobos, and Falla. The music is also available for the first time in Japan.
