Description:

Mark Lettieri, guitarist for the Grammy Award-winning band Snarky Puppy, is back in full force with the sequel to his solo work "Deep: The Baritone Sessions," a good jazz-funk album featuring Nate Smith, Adam Deitch, and other great guests Grammy Award-winning band Guitarist Mark Lettieri is known for his tight, aggressive, groove-driven rhythm playing on albums like Snarky Puppy, Fearless Flyers, and six solo albums. The follow-up to his highly acclaimed 2019 solo effort, Deep: The Baritone Sessions, is now available in its full glory. Combining the rhythm and rock guitar icons of the 70s and 80s such as Prince and Eddie Van Halen with wide-ranging inspiration from George Clinton, P-Funk, Chuckie Booker, Periphery, Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan, and more. The result is a jazz-funk work with a snarling, smoldering baritone sound.Guests include fellow Fearless Flyers drummer Nate Smith, plus Adam Deitch, Bobby Sparks, Justin Stanton, Jacob Collier, former Prince drummer Talon Lockett, pedal steel guitarist for Rascal Flatts, Travis Toy, Snarky Puppy keyboardist Shawn Martin, Keith Anderson, Steve Lukather, and many more. The fast and nimble (3), the funk number (4) with its sharp guitar (10), and the acoustic number (10) with its sinking acoustic sound, all of them are a perfect combination of rock's lightness, funk's groove, jazz's freedom, and synth's floating sensation, centering on the bass that loops and the guitar that jumps sharply. A good instrumental work.
