Amarcord, a male vocal ensemble, celebrates its 30th anniversary since it was founded in 1992 by former members of the St. Thomas' Boys Choir in Leipzig, where J.S. Bach served as music director (cantor). They have become one of Germany's leading groups and have recorded male choral works by Carl Reinecke and his students. A student of Mendelssohn and Schumann, Reinecke became the music director of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, where he served as conductor for 35 years. He also became a professor at the Leipzig Conservatory, where he taught composition for 42 years and trained many of his students, including Bruch, Janacek, and Grieg, whose works are included on this album, and was one of the most influential artists in Leipzig at the time. Reinecke himself left many works, and one can hear the strong influence of German Romanticism in his works.
