Martin Schmading, a specialist in Romantic organ works! Schmöding has featured Romantic works by Brahms, Mendelssohn, and others! Playing an organ built in the German Romantic style! Born in Minden, Germany in 1975, Martin Schmöding studied organ, music theory, music education, conducting, and harpsichord in Hanover, Amsterdam, and Düsseldorf. He also studied with Lajos Lovatkai and Hans van Nieuwkoop, among others, and learned the organ traditions of Germany, France, and the Netherlands. He has won the first prize in eight competitions for young performers in Germany and was a finalist in the ARD competition. He has recorded extensively, including the complete organ works of Brahms, Mendelssohn, and Franz Schmidt. He is also an active educator and has taught at various universities, and in 2018 was appointed Visiting Professor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatory of Music.The album features a Vöhl (2017) organ built in the German Romantic style in the Friedens church in Mülheim. This collection of organ transcriptions features works by Romantic composers with whom Schmading is familiar. His performances are backed by his deep knowledge of the music, and he is able to get close to the soul of the composers as conveyed through the music depicted in the works. Tokyo M-Plus
