Bach: Partitas - Import 2 CD

Credits:

David Shemer

Description:

All six Bach partitas by veteran Israeli harpsichordist David Shemer. David Shemer was born in 1952 in Riga, Soviet-era Latvia, and moved to Israel at an early age. He studied Baroque music in London and has long been a leading figure in Israeli classical music since the 1980s. He is of course also active internationally, and is so well-known that he is probably unknown to most of the classical musicians active abroad, but for some reason he has never been recorded and is probably not well known in Japan. This recording of the complete partitas was made a little while ago, in 2013, but it is a wonderful recording that conveys the full extent of Schermer's abilities. The sound is sublime and sublime, and Bach's music soars with richness and elegance. The harpsichord world has seen the rise of a new generation of players, but Schermer, a pioneer and longtime leader, gives us music that is hardcore. The harpsichord used in the A=392 is a Franco-Flemish type made in 2001 by the legendary Bremen virtuoso Martin Skovronec, who died the year after this recording. This instrument also has a wonderful tone. It's a CD that Scobroneck lovers won't want to miss.
