In this highly anticipated new album, they have recorded the “Salve Regina” and “Pastorella” by Austrian composer Gregor Joseph Werner (1693–1766). Werner was a composer who contributed to the birth of the Viennese Classical school. He was appointed court Kapellmeister to the Esterházy family in 1728 and held this position for the rest of his life (after Werner’s death, Haydn himself took over as court Kapellmeister). Although Werner is known as a prolific composer, much of his output consists of vocal music related to church music.\nLajos Lovatkai, our ensemble’s conductor and organist, has been researching Werner’s works for many years, and this recording was made at just the right time.
