While currently working on a complete recording of Beethoven’s string quartets, their new recording released in March 2016 features Saint-Saëns’s Piano Quintet and String Quartet No. 1.\nComposed in 1855, the Piano Quintet was dedicated to Saint-Saëns’s great-aunt. The piano part requires extremely advanced technique, giving the piece the character of a piano concerto. On the other hand, the String Quartet No. 1, composed in 1899, is one of his late masterpieces, yet it is rarely performed or recorded. It is a challenging piece in which the first violin part takes center stage much like a concerto soloist, and its dazzling melodies—featuring arpeggios and octaves extending into the high register, characteristic of Saint-Saëns—are particularly captivating. The passionate Cremona Quartet delivers a dazzling performance of these two works.\nFormed in 2000, the Cremona Quartet—whose members studied under Farulli of the Italian Quartet and Bayerle of the Alban Berg Quartet—is a group of talented young musicians carrying on the Italian tradition and attracting global attention. One of their charms is their bright, exceptionally clear articulation, characteristic of Italian style; with individual timbres blending superbly, they are widely regarded as one of the finest quartets of our time. It is also worth noting that the quartet changes the instruments they use to suit each piece. On this recording, led by first violinist Guarco, who plays a famous Guadagnini instrument, the other members also perform on historically significant instruments.\nPianist Andrea Lucchesini garnered worldwide attention after winning the Dino Ciani International Competition at La Scala in Milan. Since then, he has performed with numerous orchestras under the baton of conductors such as Sinopoli, Abbado, and Chailly. In recent years, alongside her solo career, she has been actively engaged in chamber music, and boasts collaborations with renowned musicians such as violinist Reiko Watanabe and cellist Mario Brunero.\nKing International\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eTracklisting:\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1.Piano Quintet in A minor, Op. 14: I.
