A rare collection of arias featuring accompaniment by Böhm, Bernstein, and Stein!\nWaldemar Kument was a tenor born in Vienna in 1929. He enjoyed a highly successful career at the Vienna State Opera in the 1960s and 1970s. Not only did he excel in various Mozart roles with his sweet, mellow voice, but he was also highly sought after for his refined and intelligent singing in period-instrument performances of Bach. Furthermore, he possessed the power to sing the role of Walter in *Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg* at the Bayreuth Festival—a testament to his exceptional talent. This recording features a live performance from the Vienna State Opera in the 1960s. It is astonishing to hear how effortlessly Kument hits the high notes. In *Faust* and *Cenerentola*, he delivers the high C (which, being in the Vienna pitch, is higher than usual) with great resonance. It is also surprising to hear the intensity he brings to the madness in *The Tales of Hoffmann*, as well as how well he suits the Bohemian operas of Smetana and Janáček. It’s no wonder that in 1996, at the age of 67, he appeared as the Narrator and Chief Steward in *Ariadne on Naxos* with such vigor. Of course, her Mozart is exquisite. And her performance as the Italian singer in *Der Rosenkavalier*, conducted by Bernstein, is particularly rare. Only *Idomeneo* and *Ariadne auf Naxos* are in stereo.
