Two previously unknown works by Debussy receive their world premiere recordings.
Michael Köstick, a distinctive German pianist known for offering fresh interpretations of works ranging from Beethoven to Schumann, Liszt, and even Keckhann’s piano pieces, has taken on the challenge of recording the complete works of Debussy. From this highly anticipated first volume alone, the level of attention to detail is in a league of its own—a far cry from your average Debussy collection. While *Preludes, Book 1* is the classic choice, the remaining five works are either world premiere recordings or rare gems. “An Evening Illuminated by Glowing Embers” is one of Debussy’s final compositions; since its publication in 2001, the number of recordings has been growing.
The ballet music “Comma” features an orchestral version arranged by Keckland; while the original is strictly for piano, it has rarely been heard in that form. In fact, the piano version is far more captivating, immersing the listener in an exotic world for about 20 minutes. However, there are sections notated in such a way that they cannot be played by a single performer; to remain faithful to the score, Kostrick used multitrack recording for about 23 seconds.
The “Interlude” is a solo arrangement of an early piano trio by Debussy, likely arranged by Debussy himself. “The Elephant Keeper Tumi” was inspired by an episode from Kipling’s *The Jungle Book*. It was intended to be a prelude based on an old Indian song but remained unfinished; Robert Orridge completed it. The “Little Waltz,” whose existence became known when the autograph score was offered at an auction in Paris in 2004, is a waltz reminiscent of “Slower than a Lento” and a charming piece brimming with mature allure. This is a masterpiece CD that will delight Debussy fans.
King International

Tracklisting:

1.12 Preludes, premier livre: Danseuses de delphes
2.12 Preludes, premier livre: Voiles
3.12 Preludes, premier livre: Le vent dans la plaine
4.12 Preludes, premier livre: "Les sons et les parfums tournent dans l'air du soir"
5.12 Preludes, premier livre: Les collines d'Anacapri
6.12 Preludes, premier livre: Des pas sur la neige
7.12 Preludes, premier livre: Ce qu'a vu le vent d'ouest
8.12 Preludes, premier livre: La fille aux cheveux de lin
9.12 Preludes, premier livre: La serenade interrompue
10.12 Preludes, premier livre: La cathedrale engloutie
11.12 Preludes, premier livre: La danse de Puck
12.12 Preludes, premier livre: Minstrels
13.Les soirs illumines par l'ardeur du charbon
14.Khamma (Legende Dansee) (Partition pour le Piano)
15.Intermede
16.Toomai des Elephants
17.Petite valse
