At the same time, this ambitious project offers us the opportunity to experience firsthand the evolution of Classical-era symphonies. In an era of musical and social change, Haydn was a member of the ‘Sturm und Drang’ generation—a seeker, a discoverer, and a man of great emotional depth. …” says Thomas Fai, the revolutionary advocate of the period instrument approach, with great passion. The orchestra—featuring modern strings and woodwinds alongside period brass and a calfskin-skinned kettledrum—produces a sharp, fresh sound that blends perfectly, creating an irresistible charm. This ninth album in the series features three works, including “The Hunt”—in which, as the title suggests, the horns take center stage in the finale—and Symphony No. 75, which was composed during a brief respite from his extremely busy schedule at Esterházy.
