The album features a collection of Henze's contrabass works, performed by Roccato, who was a master contrabassist in Italy, a country Henze loved and lived in, and who was in close contact with the composer. The eloquence of the solo pieces is a testament to Roccato's thorough study of Henze's music. His arrangement of the Ode to Mourning, which he himself arranged for contrabass, has satisfied the composer so much that it has been added to Henze's official list of works. The Contrabass Concerto is the highlight of the album. Expanding the possibilities of the instrument, the work is littered with technically challenging techniques and ranks as the pinnacle of contemporary double bass players' challenges. Rockett's overwhelming performance transcends the rarity of the orchestration and makes the listener discover the joy of \"listening to Henze's music.
