Capricornus Consort Basel was founded in 2006 by musicians from the Schola Cantorum Basel (SCB/Schola Cantorum Basiliensis) in Switzerland, and its founder, Hungarian-born baroque violinist Peter Balci (Balch), is the 1st The period ensemble is led by its founder, Hungarian-born baroque violinist Peter Balci (Balch), who serves as first violinist and artistic director, and includes viola player Sonoko Asabuki. The ensemble has released "Organ Works for Strings," an arrangement of J.S. Bach's solo organ works on the Christophorus label, as well as "Capricornus," which has appeared frequently as an accompanist for Miriam Feuerzinger and Franz Witzig, both of whom have received high acclaim from various quarters. The 2024 recording of "Capricornus" was released.The album features a collection of works for string ensemble that Telemann created during his various creative periods, including the "Gulliver Suite" based on Jonathan Swift's novel "Gulliver's Travels," which also appears in the album title.
