As a pianist, he has been compared to Horowitz and Rubinstein, and is praised for possessing the former’s fiery passion and the latter’s poetic sensibility.\n\nNaumov’s Ravel album opens—in true Naumov fashion—with his own piano improvisation, which is simply wonderful music and serves as a superb introduction to the world of Ravel’s sound that follows. (Delightfully, the booklet includes the complete sheet music.) In his main Ravel performances, he masterfully employs a wide range of touches—from a whispering pianissimo to a fortissimo that combines the power and depth of a bell’s toll—to brilliantly express the complex textures and subtle nuances unique to Ravel’s music.
