Although the Piano Trio No. 1 is well known as Arensky's chamber music, the Piano Quintet is full of brilliant performance effects that only a piano virtuoso like Arensky could produce. The third movement is said to be a variation on the French folk song \"On the Bridge at Avignon,\" but instead of the famous Japanese lyric, \"On the bridge, on the bridge, on the bridge...,\" the minor theme is played in a sombre variation. The brilliant pianism of Mahoko Nakano, who studied in Vienna and Paris, makes her a perfect match for Arensky. Her dynamic performance of the concerto is very engaging. Rachmaninoff has attempted two string quartets. The first is a two-chapter andante espressivo romance and allegro scherzo that he wrote for a composition assignment in 1889, when he was 16 years old and a student at the Moscow Conservatory. From the outset, Rachmaninoff's uniquely beautiful melodies are sung, creating a world of Russian lyricism, but with an appealing sense of naivete. The Second Symphony was written at the same time as the First Symphony, and although the remaining first and second movements alone are a massive 20 minutes in length, it was neglected due to the pain caused by the failure of the symphony. In the early 1910s, he thought of completing this, but it was only a conception. Even those who love Rachmaninoff can enjoy a lot of unknown melodies. The Elysée Quartet, mainly composed of Russians, performs the work to its fullest extent.
