In 1796, the lyrics were added in German and the work became an oratorio. The string quartet version is an important part of the repertoire, but it is undeniable that the role of the wind instruments has been omitted. This time, La Chapelle Renane and eight members of the 1781 Quartet have attempted a new version for quartet and string quartet. Because of the problems with the original wind parts and the absence of the chorus, the eight musicians pay great attention to detail, and their enthusiasm for bringing out the transparency while retaining the tragic message is very moving. La Chapelle Renanne is an ensemble founded by member tenor Benoit Allais; the 1781 Quartet is a fresh group making its debut in 2019. Named for the year in which Haydn began his vigorous string quartet creation, the quartet focuses on classical works. It is also noteworthy that the second violin is Japan's Koji Yoda.
