The orchestration is particularly appealing, making full use of the characteristics and timbres of instruments such as the flute in “Water” and the recorder in “Air.” “Earth” features music at a leisurely tempo, with long, flowing melodies. The finale features a large-scale chaconne performed by the instrumental ensemble, providing a grand conclusion.
