Shai Maestro's first solo recording Now available on LP from naive label! Shai Maestro was born in 1987. One of the most original and influential jazz pianists of his generation and one of the world's finest, he has established a unique musical style that is fluid, expressive, and deeply lyrical since his debut with his trio in 2011. The artistry blends improvisation, composition, and the Maestro's many influences and inspirations to create a sound that is at once cinematic and deeply personal. Born in Israel, the Maestro began playing classical piano at age 5 and was introduced to jazz at age 8 through Keith Jarrett and Oscar Peterson. 19 years old, he joined bassist Avishai Cohen's trio and co-wrote the acclaimed "Gently Disturbed" which was performed worldwide. In 2011, he formed his own trio. With a series of ECM releases produced by Manfred Eicher, the Maestro joins the ranks of legendary pianists such as Keith Jarrett, Paul Bley, and Chick Corea. In 2025, Shai Maestro takes yet another step forward. It is his first solo piano recording and the beginning of an ongoing series. The project explores the delicate balance between the beauty of structure and the spontaneous/impulsive, reflecting the evolving relationship between composition and improvisation.Cherishing Chick Corea's early teaching, "There are only three things in this job: 1. compose, 2. compose ... and 3. compose," the maestro has spent years refining his approach, which is to improvise and gradually break down the material he has composed (composed). With this record, he presents opposites. For example, I tried to contrast improvisation and composition, or dark and light colors, or dissonant and concerted sounds. The album is divided into two parts: "Miniatures" contains small, short, but completely improvised performances. And "Tales" explores how much can be pulled out of simple melodies and harmonies by letting the written (and composed) material go long and deep, expanding on it." (Shai Maestro) The richness of Maestro's creative palette is overwhelming in such pieces as the minimalist "3 Colors," "An Old Family Photo," which evokes a Middle Eastern melody, and "Mystery And Illusions," in which beautiful melodies sway with the rhythm one after another. The clarity of his tone is also appealing. The Maestro's activities are expanding: in 2019, he will perform a piano concerto by Miho Hazama with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 2022, he will premiere the orchestral work "Alice" with the Portuguese Orquestra.
