It brings together works dedicated to, or otherwise connected with, Pisendel, the finest violinist of his day, Vivaldi's contemporary and a leading figure in Dresden.
Johann Georg Pisendel (1687-1755) was admired by Quantz and Hasse and received dedications from Albinoni and Telemann; some have even argued that J.S. Bach may have written the Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin with him in mind. In 1716-17, while assistant leader of the Dresden court orchestra (he became its director of music in 1728), he travelled with the royal party to Venice, where he became Vivaldi's pupil and friend. He brought a large quantity of music back to Dresden, copies and autograph manuscripts among them, and was largely responsible for the success of Vivaldi's music there. He also revised the originals, often making greater use of wind instruments.
Vivaldi dedicated sonatas (RV 2, 6, 19, 25, 29) and concertos (RV 172, 205, 237, 242, 314, 340, and possibly RV 328) to Pisendel. Of the works recorded here, RV 237, 314 and 340 were unambiguously written for him; the others survive in copies made by German violinists of the period and carry sketches in Pisendel's hand. Julien Chauvin and Le Concert de la Loge play with tremendous brilliance.

Julien Chauvin (violin and musical director)
After studying at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, he took up baroque and classical performance practice with Wilbert Hazelzet, Jaap ter Linden and Anner Bylsma. He was a prizewinner at the Bruges International Early Music Competition in 2003, and co-founded Le Cercle de l'Harmonie with Jérémie Rhorer. He has been a member of the Quatuor Cambini-Paris since its formation in 2007. In 2015 he founded Le Concert de la Loge, a period-instrument orchestra specialising in eighteenth-century music, named after the Concert de la Loge Olympique, founded in 1783, for which Haydn wrote his "Paris" symphonies. He plays a Jacob Stainer violin of 1670 and a Giuseppe Rocca of 1839.
King International

Tracklisting:

1.Concerto RV 314 in sol maggiore~Allegro
2.Concerto RV 314 in sol maggiore~Adagio
3.Concerto RV 314 in sol maggiore~Allegro
4.Concerto RV 226 in re maggiore~Allegro
5.Concerto RV 226 in re maggiore~Largo
6.Concerto RV 226 in re maggiore~Allegro
7.Concerto RV 369 in si bemolle maggiore~Allegro ma poco
8.Concerto RV 369 in si bemolle maggiore~Largo
9.Concerto RV 369 in si bemolle maggiore~Allegro
10.Concerto RV 237 in re minore~Allegro
11.Concerto RV 237 in re minore~Adagio
12.Concerto RV 237 in re minore~Allegro
13.Concerto RV 225 in re maggiore~Allegro
14.Concerto RV 225 in re maggiore~Largo
15.Concerto RV 225 in re maggiore~Allegro
16.Concerto RV 340 in la maggiore~Allegro
17.Concerto RV 340 in la maggiore~Adagio
18.Concerto RV 340 in la maggiore~Allegro
