Having never studied at a conservatory, and with his three operas failing to garner warm reception, he remained on the fringes of the mainstream. Labeled a “talented amateur,” he was long forgotten; however, his reputation is now rapidly rising. Onslo’s 12 string quartets were completed in 1814, and each is brimming with fluidity and elegance.
