Founded in 2008 in Lyon by keyboardist and conductor Sébastien Dosé, Ensemble Correspondances is an ensemble with a repertoire centered on 17th century French religious music and a reputation for its energetic performance and recording activities, including the rediscovery of works by famous composers. The ensemble has become a leader in the world of French classical music. This album, entitled \"Seven Words and the Limb of Jesus,\" features works by Buxtehude, Schütz, and Diekmann, all of whom contributed to the development of Lutheran religious music in Europe before J.S. Bach. The organist and composer Lüdet Dieckmann, who died in Stockholm in 1717, was active in many parts of Sweden.Dieckmann's only surviving work, the funerary elegy \"Lamentations\" was composed for the funeral of two Swedish princes, Gustav (1683-85) and Ulrik (1684-85), whose short lives were cut short in April 1685. Diekmann's work, with its sad but truly heartwarming melody, evokes echoes of Charpentier's contemporaries. The performance and singing by this ensemble, which is composed of elite soloists, are superb.
