After carefully re-reading Strigi’s libretto, a new stage design has been created that places a strong emphasis on the worship of Apollo—featuring beautiful lighting that highlights the contrast between Orfeo (son of Apollo, the sun god) and the underworld, and a set inspired by Celtic stone circles—all of which place significant emphasis on the worship of Apollo. Among the cast, Cyril Oviti, a gifted artist discovered by Christy who specializes in Baroque opera, delivers an outstanding performance as Orfeo with his youthful voice. Hannah Morrison (soprano), who plays Eurydice, is a soprano who was highly acclaimed during the Japanese tour of the “German Requiem” conducted by Blomstedt (November 2017).
