Silvestrov, who has composed several pieces related to the Maidan Revolution, has stated, “Now, all of Ukraine has become the Maidan.” Estonian composer Arvo Pärt has praised him highly, saying, “If I were asked to name a single contemporary composer, Valentin Silvestrov would be the first name I would mention.”\n*Maidan2014* is a monumental work consisting of four choral collections. The starting point for each choral cycle is Silvestrov’s unique variation on a hymn, in which the composer has incorporated verses by Pavlo Tshubinsky (1839–1884), the lyricist of the Ukrainian national anthem. At the same time, this reflects the reality of the Maidan Revolution. We remember well what happened in Kyiv in 2014. We united, encouraged, supported, and stood with the Ukrainians who rose up against threats to civilian freedom and Ukrainian sovereignty—and against the forces of dictatorship and imperialism.\nSilvestrov’s choral masterpieces also include a new collection of choral works.
