He was forced to live in extreme poverty until the end of the war and, after spending several years in a sanatorium, passed away in what is now western Poland. Very few of his works have survived. It should be noted that Henck had just completed a 280-page dissertation on von Hannenheim. It is also worth noting that Henck himself wrote the liner notes for this album.\nJohann Ludwig Trepluka (1903–1945) was a student of Josef Matthias Hauer (1883–1959), who is said to have systematized the twelve-tone technique even before Schoenberg. Born in Vienna, he died in Danzig. His collection of piano miniatures, imbued with a poetic atmosphere reminiscent of the late Romantic period, is based on the words of Nikolaus Lenau (the poet famous for Richard Strauss’s *Don Juan*). With the exception of a large orchestral work recorded for Vienna Radio in 1937, almost all that remains today are these piano miniatures. These are precious works that Henck discovered while preparing a book on Hauer.\nHerbert Henck is a pianist and composer born in Germany in 1948. As a pianist, he focuses primarily on 20th-century works. He is also a talented author who has published books on Stockhausen’s works, Latin America, and the piano. This year, he received the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize.
