Mozart's 40th is the last of Furtwängler's three recordings of the same piece, and Brahms' 4th is the last of his three recordings of the same piece with the Berlin Philharmonic. These recordings are the most recent in terms of recording age and should be representative of each piece, but because of the dead, muddy sound, they have not been so up to now, and the SP and tape recordings under the Third Reich, which are reasonably well-balanced, have been preferred. However, the sound quality of the German Society's recording has improved considerably, and I have decided that not only will it stand up to repeated listening, but I will also be able to take it out more often when listening to Furtwängler's works of the same title.　The pressing of this disc was done by Electrola of Germany, and the Brahms in particular is close to the attractive second EMI sound, and the overall sound quality has been further improved. We hope you will give it a listen.
