The original LP is notoriously hard to find, so this new release is much anticipated by fans. Along with Walter and Klemperer, Horenstein was highly regarded as a Mahler and Bruckner conductor. His conducting style was also influenced by Furtwängler, as he was Furtwängler's assistant. This performance has a deep and unique tone. Animal cries, hunting horns, village dances, funeral marches, heroic and joyous fights, lyrical reminiscences, etc., are all beautifully expressed in the sound world of this work.
