The Vienna Urtext edition by Dr. Ilmyrind Kapele, published in 2010, is based on Reinecke’s own clarinet version—published in 1885, three years after the flute version—but is not merely a transposed version; it highlights the significance of this revised edition by incorporating the clarinet’s mid-range and and makes full use of the dark, deep timbre of the A-clarinet. Alongside Reinecke’s other works for clarinet, this has become an important edition that had long been forgotten.\n\nPaul Meye plays with restrained vibrato, making full use of the diverse expressiveness of the clarinet’s lower-mid range.
