Arthur Russell was a genius and maverick who roamed the left field with boundless energy. Over 20 years ago, Audika Records began compiling and releasing his incredibly diverse and long-unavailable recordings. Through these efforts, Arthur Russell—who came back into the spotlight after his death—is being reevaluated by a new generation of listeners and critics as a genius who left us too soon. His avant-garde and experimental works, including unreleased recordings, have been discovered across numerous reissues and compilations, and his musicality—and indeed his very persona—continues to exert a lasting influence through a wide range of media, extending even to books and films.\n\nWhile much of the acclaim and popularity surrounding his music surged after his untimely death from AIDS in 1992, there were many artists who believed in his talent and collaborated with him during his lifetime. Legendary producer John Hammond (Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen) recorded Russell on numerous occasions, and some of those recordings are included on this album. The album also features tracks recorded with various lineups of The Flying Hearts, the band formed by Russell and Ernie Brooks. Members included Jerry Harrison, Rhys Chatham, Jon Gibson, Peter Gordon, Peter Zummo, as well as Larry Saltzma and David Van Tieghem.\nFurthermore, this album includes recordings from Russell’s other projects, such as The Sailboats, Turbo Sporty, and Bright \u0026amp; Early.\nCompiled from over eight hours of extensive source material, *Love Is Overtaking Me* spans from his early works in 1973 to songs recorded at home in 1991 during his final years. For this reissue, the album has been mastered from newly discovered reel-to-reel tapes in excellent condition and meticulously remastered by Timothy Stollenwerk, owner of Stereophonic Mastering in Portland, Oregon.
