Threeford Mods, the quintessential modern UK punk band and voice of the working class, release their latest album via Rough Trade!

Expressing their dissatisfaction and anger towards society through DIY punk sounds and powerful lyrics, Threeford Mods release their album "The Demise of Planet X" on Rough Trade Records. This is the most ambitious and large-scale work to date by Andrew Fane and Jason Williamson, featuring actress Gwendoline Christie ("Star Wars: The Force Awakens," "Game of Thrones") Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Game of Thrones) makes her first appearance in a music project, and features rare guest appearances by Sue Tompkins, former frontwoman of Life Without Buildings, as well as collaborations with 4AD's Aldous Harding, soul singer Liam Bailey, and grime MC Snowy. Both of the latter two are from the band's hometown of Nottingham. "The Good Life" depicts a sense of social and personal collapse intertwined. Set to Andrew Fane's urgent beats and captivating melodies, Williamson's machine-gun delivery depicts the impact of his own controversial statements that caused ripples in the music scene. Big Special and Gwendoline Christie voice his inner conflict and anguish as he reels from the chaos his words have created. "The Good Life" is about putting other bands down and the joy and pain that brings. I'm asking myself: Why do I disparage other bands? Why do I keep doing it? Gwendolyn and Big Special embody the voice in my heart, arguing about my inner conflict: should I enjoy the 'Good Life' or surrender myself to chaos?" says Williamson.

The Demise of Planet X depicts lives lived in a state where predicting the future is exceedingly difficult, lives shaped by collective trauma. When I wrote the previous work, it was about stagnation—a country breathing no more than a corpse. Three years on, that corpse has been torn apart by war, genocide, and the lingering psychological impact of the pandemic, while social media has morphed into a grotesque, warped arena of digital manipulation. It feels like living in ruins. It's like a multi-layered, horrific aberration engraved in our collective psyche. It might seem strange to praise myself while the world is falling apart, but I'm really satisfied with The Demise of Planet X. It's not just a work that you throw at you; you need to take your time and savor it, like putting on glasses and peering into its contents.

- Jason Williamson (Sleaford Mods)

Tracklisting:

1.
