Pretty singing and rich expression that have won her high acclaim, including the German Echo Prize--Mühlemann's latest work is a collection of songs about her hometown and nature. Born in Adrigenswil, Switzerland, Muehlemann graduated from the Lucerne Music Academy. She is a young soprano, Regula Muehlemann, who has been remarkably active mainly in Mozart and Baroque operas. In her previous work, "Cleopatra: Baroque Arias," she explored the fascination of "Cleopatra," the queen in more than 80 operas from the 17th to 18th centuries. The new album is based on the theme of her homeland, Switzerland. At the heart of the album are beautiful songs by Swiss-born 19th century pianist and composer Wilhelm Baumgartner, who says he was influenced by Wagner. The album also includes Schubert's songs in praise of nature, works by Swiss composers such as Scheck and Resgen-Champion, as well as folk songs and songs about Switzerland. The "Shepherd on the Rock" is performed with the remarkable clarinetist Daniel Ottensamer. Sony Music
