Igor Levit, a young Russian pianist of consummate technique and artistic maturity, celebrates the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth with the release of a nine-disc box set of 32 sonatas. In 2005, she won four prizes at the Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Athens, the youngest competitor ever, and in 2004, she won second prize at the Maria Callas International Competition in Athens and first prize at the Hamamatsu International Piano Academy Competition in Hamamatsu, Japan. She has already performed with orchestras and conductors all over the world. She is also an avid chamber musician and has performed with many young and experienced colleagues. Bach "Partitas," a large-scale 2-CD set that follows her debut release.In 2015, Levitt released his third work, an unlikely and unprecedented three-CD set of Bach, Beethoven, and Jefschi variations, one each, which he performed to a packed house at the Spring Music Festival in Tokyo in 2019. Life," a two-disc set that expresses the deep sense of loss, grief, despair, and comfort that Levitt felt as a result of the tragic death of a close friend. Nine pieces from an extremely wide range of eras, from the dark grandeur and melancholy beauty of Bach to the modern composer Jefsky to the works of jazz pianist Bill Evans, were chosen to deeply move the listener. Levitt completed the long-awaited session recording of all 32 of Beethoven's piano sonatas, and the result is now available as "Beethoven: Complete Piano Sonatas. This is one of Sony Classical's most important releases for the 250th anniversary year of Beethoven's birth in 2020.
