After studying under Horațiu Rădulescu, he studied at the Paris Conservatoire with Ivo Marek, Gérard Grisey, and Betsy Jolas. He was specially invited by Henri Dutilleux to the Tanglewood Music Center in the United States. He has received numerous awards and scholarships. In 1999, he was commissioned by Mstislav Rostropovich to compose his “Cello Concerto No. 2,” which premiered in 2001. She subsequently performed the work in Boston and at Carnegie Hall in New York, conducted by Seiji Ozawa. She has been a professor at the Cité Musicale de Paris (Paul Dukas) since 2002 and at the École Normale de Musique de Paris since 2017. To date, he has composed over 100 works, ranging from solo pieces to symphonies. In addition to numerous soloists such as Nicolas Angélisch and Anne Gastinel, ensembles and orchestras both in Japan and abroad have added his works to their repertoires; his pieces have also been performed by Yutaka Sado, Akiko Suwanai, and Sayaka Shoji. He has become one of the most frequently performed French composers of his generation. He is also highly regarded as an educator and conducts master classes and lectures worldwide, including at the University of California, Los Angeles.\n\nÉric Tanguy’s works focus on “imagination, poetry, and the inner world”; he views his musical journey as a return to Messiaen—following in the footsteps of his teacher Henri Dutilleux— Debussy, and his aesthetic has also been shaped by the music of Sibelius; however, with its complex use of modes and other elements, it does not belong to any specific musical school or style. Yet, unlike atonal, chaotic avant-garde music, its appeal lies in its serene atmosphere and beautiful harmonies.\n\nThe works included here were composed by Tanguy between 1999 and 2019.
