He moves seamlessly from collaborations with cross-genre musicians and beatboxers to concertos and solo classical recitals. He takes a special interest in curating programs that highlight the connections between Western and non-Western musical traditions by combining classical masterpieces with improvisation, singing, and body percussion.\n\nHe graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music in July 2018. He has performed throughout the UK at venues such as Cadogan Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, The Sage Gateshead, and Bridgewater Hall. She has appeared as a soloist with the BBC Philharmonic and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and has performed with South African orchestras such as the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic, the Johannesburg Philharmonic, and the Cape Town Philharmonic.\n\nHe is also an avid chamber musician and made his debut at Wigmore Hall in 2013 alongside composer Colin Matthews. He co-founded BBC Introducing and Ensemble Kabantu. In 2016, he formed the trio Chesaba, which specializes in music from the African continent, including his own compositions. He has performed with musicians from various genres, including Tim Garland, Sekou Keita, Giovanni Sollima, Gwylim Simcock, and the Twelve Ensemble, among others. Recently, he has curated programs for the Kings Place Music Festival and the Oldborough \u0026amp; Oxford Chamber Music Festival, and has performed at the BBC Proms.\n\nHis debut album combines Baroque music (J.S. Bach, Giovanni Pratti), his own compositions, and South African hymns. While trained as a modern cellist, he is also well-versed in Baroque playing techniques and incorporates African music into his repertoire. On Track 1, his original composition “Ibuyile I’Africa\/Africa Is Back,” Yo-Yo Ma—who holds him in high regard—participated remotely from Boston. In “Pratti: Cello Sonata,” he uses a Baroque bow, with a double bass, theorbo, and the African instrument “kora” (a type of harp) providing the basso continuo.
