Having won first prize at this year’s Leeds International Piano Competition, he confidently showcases his extraordinary talent on this debut album. His interpretations of Chopin have already been highly acclaimed. Having loved the “Ballade No. 4” since childhood, he places this piece at the beginning of this album and performs it with great expressiveness and a touch rich in nuance. For the piano sonatas, he chose No. 2 rather than No. 3. In the Funeral March of the third movement, he moves forward deliberately with a deep, resonant tone. The final movement, which races by like a gust of wind, also leaves a strong impression. Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4, the centerpiece of the album, was also selected. Roux presents this piece—which possesses one of the most introspective atmospheres in Beethoven’s oeuvre—with great care.
