He recorded the complete symphonies twice, and there are also many individual recordings, but this collection of session recordings at St. Luke's Church in Dresden, where he went to East Germany in his later years to conduct the Staatskapelle Dresden, is the result of his vast accumulation of experience, including performances in various versions in Germany and Austria. The performances are remarkable for reflecting the methodology of Jochum's later years. The performance has a massive and imposing scale, but it is by no means static, and is a wonderful masterpiece, with a large number of ups and downs, with sufficient attention to dynamic elements.
