Debut album by young soprano Fatma Said, born in 1991! Born in Egypt, Said began singing lessons at the age of 14 and later received her Bachelor's degree from the Hans Eisler University of Music in Berlin in 2013, and in 2016 sang the acclaimed Pamino in The Magic Flute under Adam Fischer's direction. In the same year, she also won the first prize at the 8th Veronica Dunn International Vocal Competition and was selected as one of BBC Radio 3's New Generation Artists, bringing her to international prominence. She has also performed extensively in Egypt as an "outstandingly talented soprano" and received an honorary award from the Egyptian National Council of Women. This one, her debut album, brings out the best of her to the extreme. The album title, "El Nour," means "Light," and aims to shed light on works rooted in different cultures, geographies, and histories to bring to light their common spirit. The album features a fascinating array of songs with an oriental flavor, from Ravel's "Scheherazade" and works from Zarzuela, French and Spanish songs by Falla and Gaubert, to songs and folk tunes by Egyptian composers.The songs are sung in a sweet and beautiful voice, freely using Arabic, French, and Spanish, and are absolutely charming. Said's rich talent is on full display. In addition, the use of the ney, an Arabic and Middle Eastern flute, in songs by Ravel and Bizet, other than Egyptian music, creates a unique atmosphere.
