The album contains three sonatas by Viktor Karabis, one of the most important Czech composers of our time: the Cello Sonata, the Clarinet Sonata, and the Violin Sonata. Studied at the Prague Conservatory with Frobill (1945-48) and at the Academy of Music with Zietky (1952), Karabis composed orchestral and chamber music in the neoclassical style. His works are characterized by intense expression and lean musicality, and are filled with a radiant sensitivity to color and sound. Karabis' wife is harpsichordist Zuzana Ruzhchikova (1927-2017). Cellist Tomasz Jamník, born in 1985, won the highest prize in the cello section at the 58th Prague Spring International Music Competition in 2006. He has released two albums of sonatas by Czech composers on the Sprafon label (SU 3928 \u0026amp; SU 3947) and the complete cello works with orchestra by Dvořák (SU 4034).Ivo Kahanek, piano, is a performer recognized for his emotional richness and depth, and has performed around Europe, including being named soloist by Simon Rattle at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra's November 2014 concert.
