He is also a clarinetist and arranger for Montreal's Kleztory klezmer band. This is a collection of three string works by Ishmuratov, whose rich musical heritage has evolved under the influence of Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Mussorgsky, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, and others. Letter from an Unknown Woman (Letter from an Unknown Woman) was inspired by the novel of the same name by Austrian author Stefan Zweig (a work that has also been made into a film under the titles Forgotten Faces and Letter from an Unknown Woman), and was Octet, composed and premiered in 2018. This album features the string orchestra version, premiered in March 2019 by the Belarusian National Chamber Orchestra conducted by Evgeny Bushkov.Music lovers from klezmer, Eastern Europe and the former Soviet bloc should take note!
