The main mass, \"Mille regretz,\" is a parody mass based on a French chanson, known as Josquin's \"Thousand Sorrows,\" which was famously played by the Tensho Mission to Europe for Boys for Toyotomi Hideyoshi after his return. The Mass \"Desilde al cavallero\" is based on a popular Spanish song of the time, also used in the works of Cabezon and Gombert, although it is not well known today, and both are thought to have been written at a relatively early date in Morales' career. Another characteristic of de Profundiz is that he does not have a fixed musical director, but invites a specialist to conduct each project.
