Maddalena del Gobbo, one of the most promising stars in the world of Baroque music, once again enchants us with her third album for Deutsche Grammophon. The baritone (baryton) is an instrument that has not been recorded very often in the past. This unique album features music commissioned by the Marquis Nikolaus Esterházy, a great admirer of this instrument, and recorded at the Esterházy Palace. Haydn served the Marquis Nikolaus Esterházy and was the music director of the Esterházy family. He composed many works for baritone at the request of the Marquis Nikolaus Esterházy. In this recording, Maddalena is accompanied by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Maddalena was born in Italy and studied piano and cello, but one day the sound of the viola da gamba captivated her and she decided to devote her life to baroque music. She is currently the patron of the Scandinavian Cello School, a foundation that fosters young cellists, and part of the proceeds from this album will be donated to this foundation.
