She also performs covers of Ellington and Cecil Taylor songs! The New York Times called her "lyricism in an avant-garde setting" and the Jazz Times called her "a formidable talent, full of exciting harmonies and stylistic freedom. This is the first album from Sunnyside, and it was recorded at the Rudy Van Gelder Studio in Inglewood Cliffs, New Jersey, where Sanchez has been playing solo piano and in large ensembles for many years. The recording location was Rudy Van Gelder Studios in Inglewood Cliffs, New Jersey (the current engineer is Maureen Sickler). Born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1972, Beethoven was first introduced to jazz in 1972 by his friend and colleague, Beethoven, who had heard him play there. After hearing Angelica perform in Phoenix, she was advised by bassist Ed Schuller (son of musicologist Gunther Schuller) to move to New York in 1994, where she performed with Wadada Leo Smith, Paul Motian, Tim Byrne, and others. She has also garnered acclaim for her piano duo with Marilyn Crispell and her husband's Tony Malaby - Tom Rainey unit. This new release is a trio with longtime collaborators Michael Formanek (bass) and Billy Hart (drums), a heavyweight with a career spanning nearly 60 years. The combination with Hart, who has played with pianists of every generation, including Mary Lou Williams, Hank Jones, Herbie Hancock, and Ethan Iverson, will be especially noteworthy. The program is also different from Angelica's previous works. The band has departed from its traditional focus on original compositions, and has released a number of new compositions, including M1 "A Fungus Amungus" by Mary Lou Williams, M7 "The Sleeping Lady and the Giant That Watches Over Her" by Duke Ellington, M3 "With (Exit)" by Cecil Taylor, and M5 "Preludio a un Preludio" by Mario Luis Almengol, who has been called "the poet of orchestras". With (Exit)" by Cecil Taylor, and "Preludio a un Preludio" by Mario Luis Armengol, the Mexican musician and "Poet of the Orchestra," M5. The new album "Sparkle Beings" shows a new side of Angelica Sanchez. We can't help but look forward to a wider range of activities in the future with this masterpiece of her soul.

Tracklisting:

1.A Fungus Amungus
2.Generational Bonds
3.With (Exit)
4.Phantasmic Friend
5.Preludio a un Preludio
6.Sparkly Beings
7.Before Sleep/The Sleeping Lady and The Giant That Watches Over Her
