Two other tracks are also included. The sound of this historical master is reproduced in the best sound quality ever. New reissue from the original ETERNA analog tape. World's first SACD release! Mastered only in the analog domain and directly converted to DSD! Peter Dam (1937-), world-famous horn soloist and solo horn player of the Staatskapelle Dresden, recorded two Richard Strauss horn concertos and other works. The two concertos and other works by Richard Strauss are finally available on SACD! This recording was made in his second year with the SKD, and was later re-recorded in 1975 with Kempe conducting as part of a joint production with EMI of the complete orchestral works of R. Strauss (previously released as SACD hybrids on the Tower project discs TDSA88 and 168). There is almost no technical change due to the difference of only five years, and the performances are of a very high level of perfection from the beginning, so the differences between the conductor and the recording condition are rather apparent. It is interesting to note that the overall sense of scale also differs from one label to another.Nevertheless, the high degree of perfection is astonishing, and this performance at the age of 42 at the time of recording will be loved for a long time to come as one of the exemplary performances of R. Strauss, who, along with Mozart, is synonymous with the horn concerto. For the coupling, two chamber pieces are included for a change of pace. The Mozart piece was recorded in 1974, and is a beautiful performance in which Peter Dam's soft tone blends well with the string instruments. Violinist Rudolf Ulbrich was one of the concertmasters of the SKD from 1942 to 1989, and is joined by solo viola players Joachim Zintler (1956-1999) and Joachim Ulbrecht (1955-1997), principal cello The ensemble of Clemens Dillner (1948-1990), the principal cellist, is a must-hear for its fine sound quality and precise reproduction of the best of the Dresden sound. The three members of the quartet, except Joachim Ulbrecht, are members of the Ulbrich Quartet, and their Haydn: Solar Quartets, recorded in 1970, is well known as a masterpiece that won a Record Academy Award. The last Poulenc piece, subtitled \"In Memory of Dennis Brain,\" was composed in 1957 in memory of Dennis Brain, who died in September 1957, and is known as one of the major works in the horn repertoire. The recording of the organ accompaniment in Dresden's cathedral is also superb, a recording worthy of both exceptional musicians.
