Haitink performed a series of Mahler symphonies with the Berlin Philharmonic in the 1990s. Many of these recordings were released on Philips (now Decca), and several concert recordings also survive. This set also includes a series of such recordings: Mahler: Symphony No. 1 \"Titan\" with the Berlin Philharmonic recorded in 1994. The young Mahler's ambitious work, which combines lush song with a grandiose vision, is performed with Haitink's earnest musicianship and the Berlin Philharmonic's advanced ensemble playing. Then comes Mahler's Symphony No. 2 \"Resurrection\" from 1993. The Symphony No. 4, recorded at the Berlin Konzerthaus in 1991, is a masterful performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 2 \"Resurrection\" from 1993, performed at the ripe old age of 63 by Sylvia McNair and Jard van Ness, the star singers of the day. American soprano Sylvia McNair sings a lovely solo in the heavenly finale. And Mahler's Symphony No. 3, recorded in December 1990, with American alto Florence Quiver as solo singer. And Mahler's Symphony No. 7 from 2009. From the hazy nocturnal scenes to the aggressive rapturous finale, nowhere is the composer's diversity of expression more evident than in this work. Here, too, Haitink can be heard conducting with mastery. He is also a frequent guest at monumental concerts, appearing twice at the European Concerts, in London's Royal Albert Hall in 1993 and in Krakow, Poland's second-largest city, in 1999; at the 2015 Baden-Baden Easter Festival, he was the violinist of the day, Isabelle Faust, one of the most renowned violinists of her generation, performed an all-Beethoven program at the 2015 Baden-Baden Easter Festival.
