Under the harsh circumstances, this piece was described as \"music of the heavens\" (Michael Kennedy) and \"the most blessed and consoling music\" (Sir Neville Cardus), and impressed the people under the war. The title of the work is also a mystery. Alan Frogley, a great scholar, says that the climax of Thomas Hardy's masterpiece \"Tess,\" in which the heroine Tess commits murder, hides herself in Stonehenge, and is arrested and executed, is described in the second movement of No. 9, which has been pointed out to be a title riddle (Music and Letters, 1987).
