BeatRecords is releasing the complete original soundtrack to the 1979 film *Il cacciatore di squali* (Shark Hunter), directed by Enzo G. Castellari, in its world-premiere CD release. Superstar Franco Nero stars as Mike DiDonato, an Italian of Japanese descent with a tragic past—likely the reason for his escape—who lives a “primitive” existence on a deserted island. By his side is “his own version of Friday,” played by the beautiful Argentine actress Marta Miller, a star of genre films. While drawing aesthetic inspiration from Daniel Defoe’s *Robinson Crusoe* and sharing themes such as “isolation from civilization” and “immersion in nature,” this is, at its core, a thoroughly modern story. To achieve this feat, Mike seeks the help of Acapulco (Jorge Luke), but there he encounters a series of misfortunes and hostility. And all these events unfold under the watchful eye of the ocean’s most dangerous predator—the shark. In addition, the director himself delivers a memorable performance as a mysterious hitman operating behind the scenes. Meanwhile, villains such as Ramon (Werner Pochat), Donovan (Michael Forest), and Gomez (Eduardo Fajardo) lead their henchmen in pursuit of their respective ambitions. The music for this film was composed by Guido and Maurizio De Angelis. The year 1979, when they wrote this score, was a time when the disco boom was sweeping the world with tremendous force. That energetic power was infused into all creative endeavors, and the masterful De Angelis brothers vividly captured the spirit of that era. (1/2)
