Clara Josephine Wieck, who began her career as a child prodigy pianist, continued her own career after her marriage to Robert Schumann in 1840, and later worked as a performer, composer, and piano teacher under the name Clara Schumann. Her brilliant piano playing inspired many composers of her time, who dedicated their works to her. As a pianist, Clara loved to play works by J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Robert Schumann, and Brahms, but only a few works by her contemporaries Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Stephan Heller (1813-1888). This album presents works by ten Danish, German, Czech, and Hungarian Romantic composers and one female composer, including some now forgotten world premiere recordings.
