In both his poetry and his political actions, he was a very influential figure who pushed the poor and oppressed; he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971. While Pétesson's dark and violent passages appear throughout the work, along with his sympathy for the disadvantaged, the clear strings and beautiful melodies that seem to dream of heaven are also impressive in this work.
