The popular collection of Respighi's orchestral works conducted by John Nesiling. This album includes arranged works by Bach and Rachmaninoff. The most famous orchestral arrangements of Bach include Stokowski's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565, Schoenberg's Prelude and Fugue in E-flat major, BWV 552, and Elgar's Fantasy (Prelude) and Fugue in C minor, BWV 537. Respighi also arranged some of Bach's organ works. The Prelude and Fugue in D major, BWV 532, is a very technical and flamboyant fugue with an impressive theme that repeats the same note pattern over and over again with the dynamic pedal of the prelude, but Respighi has made it sound three-dimensional and gorgeous with his skillful orchestration. The woodwinds, brass, strings, and even the piano appear, and the interplay of the themes in each part is a must-hear. The passacaglia is also truly magnificent. The three chorales are the Leipzig Chorale \"Come, Savior of the Gentiles\" and the Schüpler Chorale \"My Soul Praises the Lord\" and \"Awake, Awake, Awake. The orchestral version of the Leipzig Chorale, \"Come, Gentile Savior,\" and the Schuppler Chorale, \"My Soul Praises the Lord,\" and \"Awake and See,\" are in three movements, a suite that shows Respighi's good taste. Rachmaninoff's sound pictures are also a treat to hear. From the two volumes of piano music, Op. 33 and Op. 39, Respighi has created a suite of five pieces in suite form. The Brazilian conductor John Nesiling, born in São Paulo in 1947, is a gem of a conductor, descended from Bodanzky and Schoenberg, and has been under the tutelage of Bernstein and Swarovski. He has been trained by Bernstein and Swarovski. He colorfully shakes Respighi with passion and great rhythmic sense, which are his own specialties.
