The new recording is a breath of fresh air, with a sparkling string interpretation, lucid winds, and sharp timpani that only Dausgaard can deliver. A Summer Night's Dream was commissioned by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prossein and performed for the king's birthday celebration. It is one of Mendelssohn's masterpieces, including the famous wedding march. The Tale of the Beautiful Melzine\" was composed from a libretto by F. Grillparzer, based on the legend of Melzine, the sea nymph. Fingal's Cave\" was composed based on his impressions of Fingal's Cave on the island of Staffa during a trip to the Hebrides in Scotland.
