Prelude Classics is an emerging audiophile label founded by Michał Bliwa, a renowned Polish violist. The new release features six harpsichord suites by the Flemish composer Jean-Baptiste Rouillet, aka \"Rouillet of London. Like many other composers from the continent, Rouillet made his home in London, where he was active as a wind and keyboard player, especially known for his flute and recorder works. He is also highly regarded as an organist as well as a harpsichord instructor. The \"Six Suites\" on this album can be divided into two parts: the first part consists of armandos, corrente, sarabandos, arias, minuets, and gigue played in G minor, A major, and C minor. The second part is a dance part in the form of a gavotte in place of an aria, with emphasis on the major scale (D major, F major, and E-flat major) and flat sounds. These works are influenced not only by Italian music, but also by French music, which was well received in London at the time.Maria Banaszkiewicz-Bliwa is a graduate of the Jan Ignacy Paderewski Music Academy in Poznań, where she has been performing and training younger students. While still a student, he began his performing career with the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra, playing bass continuo parts in orchestras and operas. He has performed with such musicians as Henrik Schelling and Christopher Hogwood. Recording the harpsichord presents many challenges, and due to the nature of the instrument, it is hard to put into words how difficult it is to reproduce its sound in its true scale. In this recording, the delicate tonal balance of the harpsichord is carefully considered, and the special sound of the harpsichord is brought out as it is.
