Their second quartet is the Grieg and Mennonite Quartet. Their second quartet is a tour de force of Grieg and Mendelssohn, two great masters whose works do not come to mind for a string quartet. It is surprising to hear that they had recorded this album at the same time as their previous one (MU 011), which challenged Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich. Both works were written when the composers were young, so their fresh sensibility shines through. The string quartet version of Paganini's Caprice, arranged by Bergin on viola, is also worth listening to.
